Background
And I Kill began life as a Blake-solo-track way back in 2010. A whimsical, musical spin on the classic "I can't live without you" trope, it was a darkly-comical take on the idea of someone being so attached to another person that they can't remain sane alone.
And you're there with me all the while,
helping me spill all the blood."
A line that perfectly encapsulates the song's blend of affection and morbidity, a twisted romanticism that has become a hallmark of the pair's songwriting.
Released on an album of the same name, it was short-lived, removed from streaming platforms in the same year from a dissatisfaction with the production quality. The time was not right for the song, and it was shelved for over a decade.
Fast forward to 2025; A Blake that had since learned guitar enough to do the song justice and a Gloom that wanted to sing it alongside him. The song was reborn, rebuilt from the ground up; it retained its dark humour and familiar melody while embracing a richer, more complex musical landscape.
Now it's hard to imagine the song without Gloom's vocals; she's not just a feature, she's a correction to the original, a much-needed counterpoint to the original song's perspective.
