An origin story gone rogue, a ritual of remembrance turned into a recipe for disaster. Rituals and Recipes is an instruction manual on how to conjure chaos, how to summon a Gloom and how to make a Blake.

Blending the bizarre and the macabre, the track takes listeners on a journey through the creation of the dark duo. Combining acoustic richness and an orchestral depth with lyrics that conjure images of arcane rites and mystical concoctions, "Rituals and Recipes" ensnares the imagination, inviting all who hear it to partake in a world where magic and melody intertwine.

(Intro)
Eye of newt,
Toe of a frog,
Wool of a bat,
and tongue of a dog
Okay, okay put it in
I'm doing it, I'm doing it
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
Why are we laughing
I don't know
OK
Do you have any more chips in that tube
Why. Should I put them in the pot
No, I'm just hungry from all the stirring
OK
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
Oh, that was loud thunder
Yep

(Verse - Blake)
The manual reads that you need to grab
a bottle of fermented blood
You need the eye of a heron and the beak of a duck
And a whole lot of luck
A couple dashes of pepper
A tortuous night near the end of a life
A couple hours baked in the oven like a cake
Yeah, my friend, that's how you make a blake

(Chorus)
It's a recipe for disaster
A life that's lived happy never after
You best close your eyes
It's a lesson in how to cast a
Spell and won't end well for
You best close your eyes

(Verse - Gloom)
The manual reads that you need to cast
a circle with chalk on the ground
You need five candles to honour the drowned
And the Gloomnomicon to summon her out
And when the clock then strikes three
You'll hear a blood curdling scream
That means she's weaving through seams
From the bonds that buried her deep to her doom
Yeah, my friend, that's how you summon the Gloom

(Chorus)
It's a lesson in how to cast a
Spell and won't end well for
You best close your eyes
It's a recipe for disaster
A life that's lived happy never after
You best close your eyes

The manual reads that you need
a couple bodies fresh out of the graves
You need some sutures and fresh bandages
And a couple of sausages
What?
What? Sausages
I don't think... Okay
Sausages
Sausages

Deep In the Mix

Every good ritual needs the correct ingredients, and when the time comes to bottle a voice, the process is not so different. Follow how Gloom and Blake achieve their signature sound in the studio.

It all begins as ideas on a page, words on a screen. Crafted across the globe, Gloom and Blake exchange lyrics, refining the recipe for the song until they have a concoction they both love.
Then it's off to the booths, scream-proofed, sound-isolated spaces where every nuance of their performance is captured with precision on a blend of vintage and modern microphones.
Remnents of a bygone era of bedroom-studio-duvet-dampening, the duo still record the same way - a single microphone, three tracks, one panned either side and one in the middle.
Next comes the vocal chain, a series of effects that shape the raw recordings into the professional, polished sound heard on the track. From subtle compression to creative reverb, each element is carefully curated.
Finally, possibly the most laborious part of the process, the mix. It's here all the elements come together, making sure the vocals are balanced, clear and sit perfectly within the music.
